Autistic Baby Toddler Sign Language Story - Mrs Mum (Scotland)

My son is two and a half and has autism. He doesn't really speak but has recently started trying to say some words mostly using only the vowels.

He babbles noisily a lot, he has a lot to say! He uses PECS to tell me what he wants at home. He uses the sign for "more" and understands it can be used for more of anything.

He is very interested in letters and numbers and appears to have memorized the text of all his books as he knows when we say the wrong words.

I think he's a little genius but I'm entirely biased. I love him so much and I'm so scared about the challenges he will face growing up.

I can only hope that he will be happy and understand that being different from others doesn't mean he's wrong or bad.

Autistic Toddler Sign Language is Excellent!
by: Terri

My son is 3 years old with autism and he knows 38 signs. We go to speach therapy where they just play with him but they never taught him anything in more than 1 year, however he is learning fast.

Communicating with pictures is easy for him but that works only if kids like that activity or things.

I taught him signs and it is better than anything. Therapists are ridiculous. They think PECS are over the top because they don't understand signs.

Signs helped my son starting to say the words!!!!! Teach signing, please. It works!
